About Nkangala TVET College

The college is funded and regulated by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and offers vocational and occupational qualifications that combine classroom theory with practical workshop training. It serves the Nkangala district, an area built around coal mining, power generation, steel and manufacturing, which shapes the strong engineering focus of the programmes.

The new central office is on the corner of Frans and Susanna Street in Witbank. The college lists the general line as 013 690 1885 and the email address as info@ntc.edu.za. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 16:00.

Courses Offered at Nkangala TVET College

NC(V) programmes

The National Certificate (Vocational) runs from NQF Level 2 to Level 4, one year per level, and combines fundamental subjects with vocational subjects. The college groups its offering as follows:

  • Engineering Studies: Electrical Infrastructure Construction, Civil Engineering and Building Construction, and Engineering and Related Design.
  • Business Studies: Office Administration, Transport and Logistics, and Finance, Economics and Accounting. Management is also listed among the programme highlights.
  • Information Technology: Information Technology and Computer Science.
  • Hospitality: Hospitality Studies at NC(V) level.

NATED (Report 191) programmes

NATED programmes are offered in engineering and hospitality, with business subjects also available at some campuses. Engineering subjects run from N1 to N6 in trimesters or semesters, and a student who completes N6 and gains the required work experience can qualify for a National N Diploma.

Occupational and other programmes

The college also lists occupational programmes registered with the QCTO and a Pre-Vocational Learning Programme (PLP). Trades and intake dates change, so interested students contact the college directly.

Entry Requirements

Programme Typical entry requirement
NC(V) Level 2 Grade 9 completed (NQF Level 1)
NATED N1 to N3 Grade 9 or Grade 10, depending on the stream
NATED N4 Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate or equivalent; engineering streams often need Mathematics and Physical Science
NATED N5 to N6 Relevant N4 or N5 pass, or NC(V) Level 4

TVET colleges do not use the university APS point system. Admission depends on the level of schooling, the programme’s subject needs and the placement process. The college website does not publish admission requirements, so the figures above follow the national pattern and should be confirmed with the college.

Nkangala TVET College Application Dates 2026/2027

For the 2026 intake, the main application window ran from 25 August to 25 September 2025, and a short late-application window followed in early January 2026 for a limited number of NC(V) and N4 programmes. The college website does not publish 2027 closing dates, although it directs applicants to its online portal for 2027 applications. Based on previous years, the main window can be expected to open from late August or September, but this is not confirmed. Applicants check the “Apply Now” page or call 013 690 1885 for the current dates.

Colleges often open trimester or semester intakes for NATED programmes during the year, and some keep a late-application window open where places remain. Watching the college’s announcements and social media pages is worthwhile.

NSFAS Funding at Nkangala TVET College

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds eligible students at public TVET colleges. South African citizens with a combined household income of up to R350,000 per year can qualify. Funding generally covers tuition and may include allowances for transport, accommodation and learning materials, depending on the rules for that year. Students must keep passing their modules to stay funded, and they check their status on the myNSFAS portal.

Fees

The college website does not publish a fee table. Fees differ by programme and year, and NSFAS-funded students do not pay tuition out of pocket. Self-funded students ask the finance office for the current fee schedule and payment arrangements before registering.

What Happens After You Apply

The college reviews applications against programme requirements and available places. Applicants are informed of the outcome by the contact details they supplied, then follow registration instructions at the chosen campus, normally in January for the first intake. NSFAS outcomes arrive separately, so students check both regularly.

Choosing the Right Programme

NC(V) suits learners who finished Grade 9 or 10 and want a full vocational qualification with workshops. NATED suits those with Grade 12 or N3 who want a technician or business pathway. Electrical, civil and mechanical fields fit the mining, power and industrial employers of the Nkangala district, while logistics, finance and office administration suit businesses in the region’s towns. Graduates enter work, complete workplace training for the N Diploma, or apply to universities of technology.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Skipping the NSFAS application.
  • Choosing a campus that does not offer the programme.
  • Uploading uncertified or unclear documents.
  • Giving a phone number or email that is not active.
  • Relying on unofficial deadlines instead of confirming with the college.
