Ehlanzeni TVET College Courses, Application Dates, NSFAS & How to Apply 2026/2027

Ehlanzeni TVET College is a public technical and vocational college in Mpumalanga with campuses in and around Mbombela (Nelspruit), Barberton, KaNyamazane, Mashishing, Mapulaneng, Mlumati and Mthimba. Applications for the 2027 intake are completed online through the college’s Learner Profiler portal, and NSFAS funding is applied for separately on the myNSFAS portal before the college application is considered.

This guide explains the campuses, the programmes on offer, entry requirements, application dates, the documents needed, how NSFAS works for Ehlanzeni students and the steps to apply for 2026/2027.

About Ehlanzeni TVET College

The college serves the Ehlanzeni district of Mpumalanga, an area that includes the Lowveld, the Kruger National Park corridor and the surrounding rural communities. Like every public TVET college in South Africa, it is funded and regulated by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and offers qualifications that combine theory with practical training for the workplace.

The administrative contact point is the Nelspruit campus at 29 Bell Street, Nelspruit, 1200. General enquiries go to 013 752 7105 or info@ehlanzenicollege.co.za.

Ehlanzeni TVET College Campuses

The college lists seven campuses. The official pages do not state which programme is offered at which campus, so applicants confirm this on the portal or by phone before choosing a course.

Barberton Barberton
KaNyamazane KaNyamazane township, near Mbombela
Mashishing Mashishing (Lydenburg)

Courses Offered at Ehlanzeni TVET College

NC(V) programmes

The National Certificate (Vocational) runs at NQF Levels 2 to 4, one year per level, and combines fundamental subjects such as Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and English with vocational subjects. The college lists these NC(V) fields:

  • Civil Engineering and Building Construction
  • Electrical Infrastructure Construction
  • Engineering and Related Design
  • Finance, Economics and Accounting
  • Office Administration
  • Information Technology and Computer Science
  • Hospitality
  • Tourism
  • Primary Agriculture

The Lowveld economy relies heavily on agriculture, tourism and hospitality, which makes the last three fields particularly relevant to local employment.

NATED (Report 191) programmes

The college also offers NATED Report 191 programmes in engineering and business-related fields, with N1 to N6 levels. These are trimester or semester based, and N6 graduates add 18 to 24 months of workplace experience to earn a National N Diploma. The official courses page lists only the NC(V) programmes, so the exact NATED subjects per campus are confirmed in the college prospectus or by contacting the college.

Other programmes

The college also runs a pre-vocational learning programme, a one-year foundation course for students who do not meet the NC(V) entry requirements. Occupational and short skills programmes are announced by the college from time to time.

Entry Requirements

Programme Minimum entry requirement
NC(V) Level 2 Grade 9 pass, with a placement assessment
Report 191 N1 Grade 9 pass
Report 191 N4 National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
Pre-vocational programme For students who do not meet NC(V) requirements

TVET colleges do not use the university APS point system. Admission is based on the level of schooling, the pre-entry placement assessment and, for some engineering and business streams, subject choices such as Mathematics. Grade 11 results are accepted for applications, while mid-year Grade 12 results are not. Final matric results are sent to the college once they are released.

Ehlanzeni TVET College Application Dates 2026/2027

The official application page states that 2027 applications are open, but it does not publish a closing date. Third-party sources differ on the timeline, and some suggest an application window that runs from around August to September with registration in January. Because dates change each year, applicants treat these as unconfirmed and check the portal or phone 013 752 7105 for the current deadline.

Students who miss the main intake still have options. The college has opened additional intakes during the year in the past, including trimester and semester-two applications for NATED programmes, so watching the college’s announcements is worthwhile.

How to Apply Online: Step by Step

  1. Apply to NSFAS first. Create or log in to a myNSFAS account and submit a funding application. The college does not consider an academic application without proof of an NSFAS application.
  2. Open the Learner Profiler portal. Use the application link on the college website and register with your details.
  3. Complete the Career Guidance Exploration. This helps identify a suitable course.
  4. Take the Pre-Entry Placement Assessment. The student completes it personally. The assessment guides placement, but the student keeps the right to choose a course.
  5. Submit the online application. Choose up to two study options and upload the required documents.
  6. Wait for the Selection Committee. Provisional acceptance is sent by SMS, so the cellphone number on the form must be correct and active.
  7. Register. Accepted students follow the registration instructions and pay any required fees at the campus.

Documents Required

South African applicants prepare these documents, no more than three months old where certification applies:

  • Certified copy of your ID
  • Certified copies of the IDs of your parents or guardians and other household dependants
  • Certified copy of your latest results
  • Proof of address with next-of-kin contact details
  • Proof of your parents’ or guardians’ income, such as a salary advice, an employment letter or a pension advice

International applicants also supply a certified passport copy, a valid study permit, a SAQA evaluation of foreign qualifications, proof of medical cover and certified English translations of any documents not issued in English.

NSFAS Funding at Ehlanzeni TVET College

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) funds eligible students at public TVET colleges. Qualifying students are South African citizens whose combined household income does not exceed R350,000 per year. The college requires proof of an NSFAS application before it considers a place.

NSFAS bursaries generally cover tuition and may include allowances for transport, accommodation and learning materials, depending on the rules for the year. Funding is only paid for approved programmes, and students must keep passing their modules to remain funded. Applicants also keep the confirmation SMS or email from NSFAS and check their status on the myNSFAS portal.

Fees

Annual NC(V) and NATED fees are published on the college’s fees page. Fees differ by programme and year, so students check the current amounts there instead of relying on figures from third-party sites. Students funded by NSFAS do not pay tuition out of pocket, while self-funded students ask the finance office about payment arrangements.

What Happens After You Apply

Once the application is submitted, the Selection Committee reviews it against the programme requirements and the available places. Applicants who receive provisional acceptance by SMS then wait for the registration dates, which the college communicates through its website and social media pages. Registration normally takes place in January for the first-semester intake, and students bring their original documents and any proof required by the campus. Applicants who are not selected for their first choice can ask about alternative programmes that still have space.

NSFAS outcomes arrive separately. A student who is provisionally accepted by the college and approved by NSFAS is funded once the college confirms registration. Checking both the college SMS and the myNSFAS status regularly prevents missed deadlines.

Choosing the Right Programme

NC(V) suits students who finish Grade 9 or 10 and want a full vocational qualification with practical workshops. Report 191 programmes suit students with a Grade 12 certificate who want a more specialised route toward a technician or business role. Students interested in agriculture, tourism and hospitality benefit from the Lowveld setting, while those in civil, electrical and engineering design fields aim at construction, maintenance and utilities employers in Mpumalanga. Students who are unsure take the career guidance and placement steps seriously, since the results help match interests and ability to a suitable course.

Graduates continue in several ways: entering the workplace, completing the practical component needed for a National N Diploma, or applying to university and universities of technology, where NC(V) Level 4 and N6 results can count toward admission depending on the institution and programme.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Applying to the college without first applying to NSFAS.
  • Submitting uncertified or outdated copies of documents.
  • Giving a cellphone number that no longer works, which means the acceptance SMS is missed.
  • Letting someone else write the placement assessment.
  • Waiting for matric results when Grade 11 results are accepted for the first application.
